“Prochy świętych – podróż do Heratu w czas wojny”

Dust of the Saints is an exciting story about the dangerous journey through Afganistan Radek Sikorski made in 1987, at that time a political refugee from Poland, as a war correspondent, and now one of the best known politicians as the Minister of National Defence of Poland, he justified the necessity of sending our soldiers to Afghanistan.

As an author with a reporter’s passion he relates his hundred day journey through a country engulfed in war. With a Kalashnikov in his hands, in the company and under the care of Mujahideens, the reporter witnessed raids, bombing and fighting. The book draws us near Afganistan, which is now at the centre of attention of the whole world. Polish soldiers now go to the same places where the author had crossed the front line. The book also acquaints the reader with Afghan culture, religion and history. The present publication, worked on by the former Minister of Defence, makes this book even more interesting. Over fifty pictures by Sikorski, including the first prize winner of the World Press Photo competition in 1988, outstandingly show the atmosphere of war and days filled with terror.
