Dzisiaj rano zakończyła się licytacja pióra ofiarowanego przez Radosława Sikorskiego na tegoroczną aukcję Wielkiej Orkiestry Świątecznej Pomocy.

Wartość pióra z początkowych 620 złotych, poprzez trzy, cztery, dziewiętnaście, dwadzieścia tysięcy wzrosła aż do sumy 35 tysięcy 300 złotych!

Pióro, którym ś.p. Prezydent Lech Kaczyński ratyfikował Traktat Lizboński zostało ofiarowane Ministrowi przez Posła Janusza Palikota podczas debaty sejmowej 15 grudnia 2011r., kiedy zdecydowana większość parlamentarzystów dała wyraz swemu poparciu dla szefa polskiej dyplomacji.

“Making sense in the aftermath of revolution is never easy. But as countries such as Tunisia and Egypt … grapple with how to rebuild institutions and build democracies, a few of the stewards of Eastern Europe’s great break from communism seem ready with advice, money and help” – writes Reuters in the special report on Polish support for Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.
The news agency cites Lech Wałęsa and Radosław Sikorski’s visits to Tunisia and Egypt and the fact Sikorski was “the first senior developed world official to visit rebel-held Benghazi in Libya.” It also mentions Warsaw’s plans for an endowment to help the Arab world during the Polish Presidency of the EU: as Sikorski puts it, “Promoting democracy is cheap, USD 100 million is the price of two F-16s. I think it is worth it.”
Poland, which President Obama called “a living example of what is possible when countries take reform seriously,” can also serve as an example to the Arab Spring countries. The anti-Gaddafi group Minister Sikorski met in Benghazi included former political prisoners and the former justice minister who now work together. “This recalls Poland’s Round Table,” said Sikorski, who also advised the Libyan interim government “they need an action plan for each ministry before they enter Tripoli … They must have an idea of what they want to do because the period of extraordinary politics is very short.”

President Obama experienced Poland

“A good visit, which confirmed the strength of our relations: Barack Obama experienced Poland” – Polish minister of foreign affairs Radosław Sikorski assessed the American President’s recent trip. “I could see he was touched when he met with war veterans, but also with Solidarity veterans, and how attentively he listened to their thoughts on the democratisation of the Middle East, Belarus and North Africa,” he added. Sikorski pointed out that the American President confirmed that he would support the legislative initiative to make Poland’s entry into a visa-free regime with the United States “dependent on the amount of long-term stays rather than on the number of rejections – and here our stats are better.” He added: “I think this statement brings the date of our entry into the programme closer. We also promised each other tighter cooperation, especially regarding the liberation of political prisoners, and then on the democratisation of Belarus.”

President Obama will gaze across the whole region from our capital

“A real, strategic conference will take place in Warsaw – not so much about the challenges facing our region, because it’s now considered secure. It’s here that Obama will be consulting the leaders of our region – who benefit from significant experience – on how to conduct the democratisation of the Middle East and North Africa more efficiently,” Radosław Sikorski told the Polska daily newspaper in an interview.
Asked what he would like President Obama to retain from his trip to Poland, the minister answered “I’m afraid he’ll remember visiting the Grave of the Unknown Soldier and the Ghetto and Smolensk memorials, while his memories of Ireland and London will be of drinking Guinness and playing ping-pong with the PM. I’d rather show the world Poland as a place where life’s getting better all the time, not just a cemetery.” Asked where he would take President Obama if he had two hours to show him Warsaw, Sikorski immediately chose the Copernicus Science Centre.

The Weimar Triangle in Radosław Sikorski’s hometown

On Radosław Sikorski’s invitation, the heads of French and German diplomacy came to Bydgoszcz on 20th May. Talks were held in the City Council building and were followed by a press conference. Later, the guests took in the city sights, including a walk on Mlynska Island.
Radosław Sikorski, Guido Westerwelle and Alain Juppé discussed the upcoming Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the situation in Belarus, the EU-Ukrainian Association Agreement and Croatia’s EU accession process. The ministers established common positions on Syria, Morocco, Libya and Egypt. They declared their support for President Barack Obama’s call for a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.
“We support American President Barack Obama’s brave statement on the need to take urgent action to resolve the Middle East conflict,” minister Sikorski said at the joint press conference. Guido Westerwelle described the Weimer Triangle as one of the biggest successes of Polish-German politics, while Alain Juppé announced that France will support Poland during its EU Presidency. “We’re glad minister Sikorski invited us to his hometown, because thanks to him we have discovered yet another beautiful Polish city,” Juppé told reporters.
After the press conference the French and German ministers were joined for lunch at Sikorski’s estate in Chobielin by Lurie Leancă, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Moldova. During the meal, the discussion centred on the current situation in Moldova and the prospect for its cooperation with the EU.

Poland and the U.S.: a mature friendship

“We have now reached the stage of a mature friendship in our relations with the U.S. We have common values and interests, but we no longer blindly support every single American proposal. We will broach the issue of visas, but we will not beg for them.” – So said Radosław Sikorski in today’s Kropka nad i programme.
The Minister discussed Polish-American relations and his expectations of President Obama’s upcoming visit to Poland. He put the American President’s choice of Poland as the venue for his meeting with the leaders of Central and Eastern Europe and the Presidents of Germany and Italy down to the importance the U.S. attaches to its relations with Poland.
“This is exactly the situation we want to be in. We are important to the U.S. We will be taking part in the presidential meeting, and Saturday will be dedicated to bilateral issues. There will be three main topics of discussion: economic ties, energy and the military. Maybe we’ll announce the permanent stationing of American air force units on Polish territory.”
